The main goal of The Transgender Fund is to support qualified initiatives fostering understanding, respect, acceptance, and freedom of expression for all those struggling with issues of gender identity.
None of the work we do would be meaningful or indeed possible without two things: the courage of activists, and the generosity of individual donors. This unique, informal partnership exists because these two groups care about those whose lives have been compromised because of the way they have chosen to express who they are as human beings. The Transgender Fund simply acts as a bridge between the two.
While much progress has been made in the few short decades since the beginning of the transgender movement, financial investment in public education and human rights awareness is needed more than ever to break down the still-standing wall of ignorance that pervades nearly every facet of today's society.
Discrimination, ridicule, isolation, fear, hatred and violence are byproducts of this ignorance. No society can call itself civilized so long as these conditions exist.
We are both delighted and proud of the fact that our donors come from all walks of life and circumstance; and understand that if we want to accomplish anything worthwhile, it is indeed up to us.
