Two Charged with Illegal Trading with Iran
PHILADELPHIA . Laurie
Magid, Acting United States Attorney for the Eastern
District of Pennsylvania, today announced the unsealing of an
indictment
charging Mohammad Reza Vaghari, 41, of Broomall, PA, and Mir Hossein
Ghaemi,
42, of Edgewood, MD, with crimes relating to their participation in
illegal
business transactions with Iran between in or about 2002 and
present.
Both defendants are charged with one count of conspiracy to violate
the
International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA), and Vaghari is
charged
with three additional substantive counts of violating IEEPA.
Finally, Vaghari
is also charged with attempting to procure U.S. citizenship by fraud
and
possessing immigration documents that were procured by fraud.
According to the indictment, the defendants operated in this country
through a
Pennsylvania corporation called Saamen Company. The American-based
conspirators
would purchase items from American companies, export the items to
the United
Arab Emirates, and co-conspirators in the U.A.E. would then deliver
the items
to customers in Iran. The indictment further alleges that Vaghari
made false
statements in connection with his attempt to obtain U.S. citizenship
in or
about November 2004, and that, since 1998, he has possessed a
permanent
resident card that had been procured by fraud.
If convicted of all charges, Vaghari faces a maximum sentence of 85
years
imprisonment, a $3,750,000 fine, three years of supervised release,
and $600 in
special assessments; Ghaemi faces a maximum sentence of 5 years
imprisonment, a
$250,000 fine, three years of supervised release, and a $100 special
assessment.
This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation
and the
Department of Commerce. It is being prosecuted by Assistant United
States
Attorney Stephen Miller.

Obama’s “My Muslim Faith” Gaffe Reignites Speculation
The Democratic Party’s presidential candidate Senator Barack
Obama claims he accidentally said “my Muslim faith” in an interview,
causing speculation that he is a Muslim to re-ignite. Obama, who
lived in Indonesia as a child, has denied being a Muslim and has
sharply criticized such claims.
The statement occurred during an interview with George
Stephanopolous on ABC’s show, “This Week” when discussing Obama’s
religious faith.
“…you’re absolutely right that John McCain has not talked about my
Muslim faith,” Obama said. Stephanapolous then interrupted Obama
saying, “Christian faith.”
“My Christian faith,” Obama then stated, correcting his statement.
“What I think is fair to say is that, coming out of the Republican
camp, there have been efforts to suggest that perhaps I’m not who I
say I am when it comes to my faith—something which I find deeply
offensive, and that has been going on for a pretty long time.”

Every Governor in America is now

Staff members and volunteers for the Christian Action Network
(CAN) boxed up hundreds of thousands of petitions that have been
sent in to the CAN offices over the past several months. The message
on these petitions is simple: “America is facing a real threat of
Islamic extremist within each and every state.”
“Each and every petition was hand sorted and mailed to the governors
offices which represented constituents from that state,” said
Michelle Matherly coordinator for this important project. She
continued, “We are so thankful to our donors and membership base
that sent in their petitions personally asking their governor to be
more aware of the threat of homegrown terrorism.”
Though all states were represented in this massive distribution,
several states including Virginia, South Carolina, Georgia and New
York were strongly represented. It seems that the constituents from
these particular states are deeply concerned about the Islamic
training compounds called Muslims of America that have established
roots in their states.
